If you are applying for a new Employment Permit or going through a Change of Employer process, there is one very important rule you must be aware of – you cannot start work until the process is fully completed.
New Employment Permit Applications
When applying for a new Employment Permit with the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment (DETE), an applicant cannot legally start employment with the new employer until the Employment Permit has been issued.
Starting work before the permit is issued is a serious risk — there is a high likelihood that the application will be refused if the applicant begins working before the permit is in place.
Change of Employer
The same rule applies to the Change of Employer process. An applicant cannot start work with the new employer until the Change of Employer process has been fully completed by DETE.
This applies whether you are starting a brand new permit or transferring to a new employer. Starting early, even by one day, puts your application at serious risk of refusal
