Refusal of IRP Card Renewal: Requesting a Refund

By 15 September 2026No Comments

If your online Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card renewal application has been refused, you are entitled to a refund of the fees you paid. Here is what you need to know.

When Should You Expect Your Refund?

You should normally receive your refund within 15 business days of the refusal of your application.

What If You Have Not Received Your Refund?

However, if you did not receive your refund within this time, you can request a refund through the Immigration Customer Service Portal?

To do this you will need:

  • Your IRP Card Number
  • The OREG number for the refused application — this is on the confirmation email you received when you submitted your renewal

Here is how:

  1. Log on to the Immigration Customer Service Portal: https://portal.irishimmigration.ie/en/
  2. Select ‘Submit a Query’ on the Home Page.
  3. For ‘Query Category’ select ‘Registration & Irish Residence Permit (IRP) Cards’, then select ‘Online Renewal Applications’, followed by ‘I require a refund of fees paid’.
  4. On the following page explain your request in ‘Details of Query’ and include your IRP Card Number as well as the OREG number for the refused application and press ‘Submit Query’.
  5. Wait for a response to confirm that your refund will be issued.

If you are having difficulty requesting your refund or have any questions about your IRP renewal, MRCI is here to help, submit your question in detail on our contact us form for free and confidential support.
