Immigration Service Delivery has announced that a travel notice is now in place, allowing people awaiting the renewal of their Irish Residence Permit (IRP) cards to travel from July 13th to August 31st. This travel notice only applies for this period of time currently.
This applies if an application to renew an IRP card was submitted before the previous IRP card expired and the applicant can show proof of their application (the confirmation email with their OREG number).
If travelling during this period with an expired IRP card, the Travel Notice (found at this link) should be downloaded and printed, to be shown to immigration authorities and airlines, along with the expired IRP card and proof of renewal.
What Do You Need to Do?
1. Download and print the Travel Confirmation Notice The notice is available to download from irishimmigration.ie. Print it and carry it with you when travelling.
2. Bring your expired IRP card Carry your recently expired IRP card along with the notice.
3. Bring proof of your renewal application This is the email confirmation you received when you submitted your renewal application, showing the date it was submitted.
4. Contact your airline in advance It is strongly recommended that you contact your airline before travelling to confirm they are aware of and will accept this notice.
ISD also recommends that if you are transiting through a third country to return to Ireland that you check if that jurisdiction can accept the travel notice on to Ireland.
More information on this (including an FAQ) can be found on the Immigration website here.
