If you use the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) Customer Service Portal, for example to submit documents, check your application or contact ISD , there is an important change you need to know about.
ISD has added Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to the portal. This means you now need to verify your identity using an app on your phone every time you log in, in addition to your usual username and password.
This change is designed to protect your personal information and prevent unauthorised access to your account.
What Is Multi-Factor Authentication?
Multi-Factor Authentication or MFA is an extra security step when logging in. Instead of just entering your username and password, you also confirm your identity using a code generated by an app on your phone. You will already be familiar with this if you use online banking or other secure websites.
What Do You Need to Do?
Step 1 — Download an authenticator app
You need to download one of the following free apps on your phone:
- Microsoft Authenticator — available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
- Google Authenticator — available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
Both apps are free, secure and widely used.
Step 2 — Log in to the ISD portal
Go to portal.irishimmigration.ie and enter your username and password as normal. You will be prompted to set up MFA if you have not already done so.
Step 3 — Link your app
- Open your chosen authenticator app
- Tap Add account
- Scan the QR code shown on the ISD portal
- If you cannot scan the code, tap Enter Code Manually and follow the instructions
Step 4 — Log in as normal going forward
Each time you log in you will:
- Enter your username and password
- Open your authenticator app
- Tap your ISD account
- Enter the 6-digit code shown in the app
