The Department of Justice has recently issued updated information regarding registration requirements for minors.
Children aged 15 years and under
- Children who are 15 years of age or younger are not required to register for a permission to remain in the State, unless specifically directed by the Minister.
Registering for the First Time at Age 16
- Minors who have acquired Irish citizenship through naturalisation are not required to register for an immigration permission upon turning 16.
- Those who are required to register for the first time must do so as soon as possible after reaching 16 years of age.
Registration Requirements Upon Turning 16
- Irish-born children who are eligible for citizenship but not yet naturalised may register and will be issued a Stamp 4 permission.
- Foreign-born children who are eligible for citizenship and have resided in the State for five years or more, but not yet naturalised, are required to register and will be issued a Stamp 4 permission.
- Foreign-born children of entrepreneurs under the Start-up Entrepreneur Programme or of investors under the Immigrant Investor Programme will be issued a Stamp 4 permission.
- Foreign-born children of PhD students or those on ISD-approved scholarship programmes are required to register and will be issued a Stamp 2A permission.
- All other foreign-born children who have resided in the State for less than five years are required to register and will generally be issued a Stamp 3 permission.
Registration Fees
- All children under 18 years of age who are required to register are exempt from paying the registration fee paying the registration fee , regardless of stamp category.
