Automatic Extension of Temporary Protection Permissions announced By Department of Justice

By 20 February 2023No Comments

From 16th February 2023, the department will extend all residence permits granted on the basis of temporary protection so that your permit will be valid until 4th March 2024. Thus, you do not need to apply for an extension, as your permit will be extended automatically. All future residence permit granted on the basis of temporary protection will be valid until 4th March 2024.

Your current TPC (temporary protection certificate or yellow paper) and your current IRP(Irish residence permit) will be valid until 4th March 2024, and it is legal for you to reside in Ireland even if you do not apply for a new TPC or IRP.

The extension to TPC and following IRP card is free of charge for beneficiaries of temporary protection.

For queries in relation to this extension, please contact temporaryprotection@justice.ie

For those benefitting from an extension, expired certificates may be used as proof of entitlement to re-enter the country until 4th March 2024. People intending to travel under these arrangements should print the Department of Justice notification and present it, along with TPC, to immigration authorities and airlines carriers.  Please see full travel confirmation notice here.
