As of the recent Non-EEA Family Reunification Policy Review, the Department of Justice has announced that dependent minor children of Work Permit holders who have been granted permission under Family Reunification will be given a Stamp 1G permission when they reach 16 years of age and register with Immigration, rather than a Stamp 3.
Here are the important details:
- This will allow minor dependents over the age of 16 to legally work under this Stamp 1G.
- As of 26th November 2025, eligible dependant minor children with a current Stamp 3 IRP Card have their permissions conditions changed to a Stamp 1G. This means that they are now legally able to work.
- This also applies to adults on a current Stamp 3, who received this stamp through Non-EEA Family Reunification only, as a dependent minor of a work permit holder.
- A new IRP card does not need to be applied for until the current one needs to be renewed. At that point a Stamp 1G IRP card will be issued when the renewal application is made.
- The Department has released a letter that can be given to employers to confirm this right to work, which can be shown to the employer along with the Stamp 3 IRP Card.
For more information on who specifically is eligible for this permission and for the explanation letter for the employer, please see the official Department of Justice announcement found here.
