IRP Card Renewal Delays

IRP Card Renewal Delays: Important Information

The Immigration Services Registration Office at Burgh Quay, Dublin has reported that they are currently dealing with a very high number of applications. Because of this, IRP card renewals are taking longer than usual.

Current processing times:

  • IRP renewal applications are taking around 10 weeks to be processed
  • After approval, it can take up to 2 additional weeks for the IRP card to be delivered

Applying on Time and Staying in Permission

Employees are advised to apply for their IRP renewal well before their current card expires.

If a renewal application is submitted before the expiry date, the person:

  • Can remain legally in Ireland for up to 12 weeks after the IRP card expires
  • Must keep proof of application, such as:
    • an OREG number, or
    • a confirmation or approval email

This proof can be shown to an employer while waiting for the new IRP card.

Important warning

If an IRP card expires before a renewal application is submitted, the individual is considered out of permission and is not legally allowed to remain or work in Ireland. Applying on time is therefore essential.

If your immigration permission has expired and you haven’t applied for renewal, contact MRCI caseworkers at www.mrci.ie/contact-us
