Application for Spouse of an Irish Citizen

If you are married to – or in a civil partnership with – an Irish citizen you may get permission to live in Ireland with your spouse or partner. You can now make the application to remain in the state online. The application can be submitted directly through the official Customer Service Portal.

Who can apply?

You may be able to apply if you are married to an Irish citizen and:

  • You currently do not have permission to be in Ireland, or
  • You entered Ireland on a Short Stay ‘C’ Visa, or
  • You are currently in Ireland as an asylum seeker, or
  • You were refused registration at your local immigration office.

 

How to apply and where to find more information

  1. Visit the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) website for full guidance, eligibility information, and access to the application form.
  2. Fill in the form
    • Download the Spouse of Irish National application form.
    • Complete it fully, sign it, and save it as a PDF.
  3. Submit online
    • Go to the Customer Service Portal.
    • Select Submit Query and choose:
      Domestic Residence and Permissions > Topic Subquery > Spouse of Irish National.
  4. Upload documents
    • Attach your completed and signed application form (PDF format).
    • Upload any other required documents.
