The Drop In Centre is staffed by a coordinator and caseworkers. Our staff and volunteers are from diverse backgrounds and are able to communicate in a range of languages. The typical areas of concern the DIC deals with include the work permit system, employment rights and workplace exploitation, as well as immigration-related concerns including legal status. Migrant workers who access the services of the DIC work a variety of sectors including: domestic work, agri-food, hotel & catering including restaurants, cleaning, construction and general services. The DIC services are also accessed by people who have become undocumented, or have been trafficked for the purposes of forced labour. The DIC operates a confidential case management system that records queries and assists in analysis of trends and patterns - this is in order to provide the MRCI with a solid base of evidence for developing policy change agendas.
The DIC is also in the process of identifying organisations that can provide appropriate local and specialist support and assistance to migrant workers experiencing difficulties, so that it can develop a system of specialist and local referrals.
Please note that all information given below is subject to change, please check our e-bulletins in the News & Events section for udpates, or contact the MRCI or relevant organisations for further clarification.
