An important part of MRCI's community work approach involves creating opportunities and spaces where migrant workers to come together to identify shared issues facing them, build power and take collective action for change.
Such spaces include action and campaign groups, where workers from many different countries and backgrounds join forces to tackle issues that they have in common. These groups are places where migrant workers can share information, receive support and join in solidarity when they are experiencing problems. They provide a space for people to discuss proactive ways to challenge the problems they face collectively, become empowered, and take action.
Worker Action Groups
MRCI has supported the establishment of three worker action groups in sectors where there are high levels of exploitation. Group members have come together to defend their rights and improve conditions for all workers in these sectors. Click on the sections below to find out more about their activities:
Campaign Groups
Migrant workers have also come together and formed groups to campaign for specific policy changes. A number of these campaigns have been very successful. Read more in the sections below:

"We are all from different countries, with
different cultures and different backgrounds.
But we all have the same problems and we
know we have to fight, to do something to
change our future"
Iryna Zmyeyevska
"I know, even if I am a small woman, with a
small voice, I'm able to do things that are
bigger than me. If we learn to take away the
words ‘I' and ‘you', and instead we build a
bigger ‘we', we can make a difference."
Hilda Regaspi
"If we work together, if we make partnerships, if we do some networking, there will be victory. If we talk to the government, if we say our piece, we can gain something. Let's not live in the shadows, on the edge, let's start moving on. We have a lot to do. We have a lot to prove. We are a new community and we have rights. Migrant rights are human rights!"
