Give workers the right to change employer - it's just common sense!
The current employment permits system binds a worker to one employer. This is a leading factor in the exploitation of workers from outside the EU. The MRCI is calling for a simple administrative change from Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O'Keeffe, TD, and Minister for Labour Affairs, Dara Calleary, TD, which would give workers in the employment permit system the right to freely change employer.

Testimonies
"I did all the cooking, cleaning, washing and childminding. I worked 12 hours per day, 6-days per week. I was paid €150 per week or about €2 per hour. The work permit is like a chain around your neck. I couldn't leave my job. I was told by my employer that if I leave I will be here illegally and not be able to find another job. He said I would be sent home in shackles." -Rosemarie
"I would get up at 8am and would not go to bed before midnight. I did not have any rest breaks other than eating and sleeping at night. As soon as one task was done I would do something else. I was paid €100 a month. When I asked my employer for a day off he told me that if I wanted one that I could go back to India. He would say "You are on my work permit!" -Surinder
